playing divX files problem

Hi All,

I have been playing divx files on my Slackware 11 box for a couple of months and everything was superb. The media player I use is Noatun. Recently I can just hear the sound and not the visual. It just gives a blue screen when I try to play divx or xvid files. Interestingly, the sound of the movie is pretty clear.
When I log in as root or other simple user, I am able to play fully the same files.

The same with other media players more or less. Please advise accordingly.

Thanks a lot.
Rajan

You have video with the other users? Maybe somehow the settings got messed up for that player for that user. If there is a .noatun directory or file in the particular user's directory, delete it, and then see if the defaults work again. You may wish to backup the directory, if you're worried about it.

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I could not find any .noatun file or folder in my home folder. I used slocate command to find the whereabouts of files and folders with this name, but I could not find any hidden files. Most of them were just simple (not hidden)folders and files I was afraid to delete. Is there any other way to reset my settings to default settings? This is very annoying because everything was working so fine.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Truly,
rajan

the stuff in your home directory should be safe to delete, the stuff outside is not.
