I am trying to connect my Linux notebook (running Mandrake 9.1) to my television, using the S-Video TV out provided. It almost works, but that the picture on my TV screen is black and white.
My notebook's video controller is an sis650. I have set the TV format to PAL in the BIOS, and I have tried fiddling with the coarse & fine colour controls, as advised on Mr Winischhofer's site, but to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? I realise that this is not actually a Linux-specific issue, but it's definitely hardware, and my computer certainly runs Linux, so what the hell.
Most likely, its your tv that doesn't support the S-VHS signal, if theres a standard video-out
on your laptop try that one instead. Or if you know somebody who owns a fairly new tv
try connecting to that, and see if that makes a difference.
Gah! Picture is black and white, no matter whether I use AV1 or AV2 on either my TV or my VCR. Good job they're both rented, at least I have a chance of replacing them easily......!
Wait - no, scratch that. My TV had a setting for AV2, VIDEO or S-VIDEO. Set it to the latter, and boom! Colour picture. Fantastic. My Linux notebook is now my home entertainment server.
