Permanent Refresh Rate

Hello all. I have a need to set the refresh rate to a specific number and will need to send this to several linux boxes because of the hardware that will be attached to it that allows for remote connectivity and viewing the gui through the hardware. I have tried setting the parameters with xvidtune, redhat-config-xfree86 and haven't had much luck. xf86cfg, xf86config and XFree 3 don't work on my system. Here are the hardware/software specs of the machine I'm using:

HP Workstation xw9300 Base Unit
8GB of RAM
Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 285
2593.115 cpu MHz
NFORCE chipset
GeForce 4500 video card
Kernel 2.4.21-37.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Sep 7 13:32:18 EDT 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The DDC string that feeds the linux box the info for video data absolutely MUST have a refresh rate of either 60, 65, 70 or 75 hertz. Anything outside of this will render the video out of range.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
LoadedMind

I forgot to mention that I've seen several HOWTO's and most of them mention editing the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, but I must confess that I don't know what parameter to modify or add for the machine to ALWAYS boot to the same refresh rate. Thanks!

/etc/X11/xorg.conf or similar:

Code:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Unknown"
        VendorName "Unknown"
        ModelName "Unknown"
        HorizSync 30-X
        VertRefresh 50-X
EndSection
(X = 60, 65, 70 or 75.)

Thanks! As soon as I test this on a couple of different boxes, I'll let you know the results.

Well, I think the main reason behind the initial troubles is that I need to find a solution for something that's happening dynamically by way of automatic recognition of hardware to render for X. I work for a company that sells KVM over IP solutions and the IQ modules they use to interface with the targets (servers, for instance) pass a DDC string that somehow communicates to the kernel what it is capable of rendering. I tried this and it worked, for the most part. I'm just not sure how other distributions will handle this whole process. I don't know that there really is a solution at this point but at least I put forth the effort to help most customers using linux with our products.
