pentium II- 586 or 686?


im about to install Gentoo on my server (leaving redhat behind). and i needed to know if p2 is classified as i586 or i686

I know it has MMX technology, just dont know which x to use in x86.

screw it, i'll just leave it as 486 and be done with it, i hope my CFLAGS make up for it (-march=pentium-mmx)


no need to reply to this, i've begun bootstrapping and if someone tells me it's a 686 it will just upset me

Sorry to upset you, but it's a 686

CFLAGS=-g -O2 -march=i686 should work OK.

i used

CHOST=i484.....

and

CFLAGS= -march=pentium-mmx -O3 and some -f optimions.
