Pentium 1 for linux pc (sudjestions please)
i am traying to find a way to install linux, still need to buy a new hard disk i would love to use my old Pentium 1 for linux pc, but i need the os, wich one would fit on there ? (pentium 1, 166Mhz,32MB ram (still looking for a harddisk)) does a 40GB hard disk works under linux @ a pentium 1 ?
what do you people recomand thanks for ansering xxx Linda (excuse my english) |
pretty much any distro with a light gui, more ram wouldn't hurt, and 40gb only if the motherboard bios can recognize it.~32gb might be the biggest drive it will see.

i did that with my 550 MHz PC and i had to set the jumpers to ah dual setting with Western digital told to set so you could try setting it too ah dual setting

I have actually set up a 166MMX with Slackware10.0. It runs IceWM fine but I would suggest if you want to use X then get at least another 32MB RAM becuase the one I set up has 32 and it swaps loads. I incidentally put it on a 6GB drive with no problems as it basically can't handle KDE or Gnome that cuts out a big chunk of stuff.
