Are you sure that the drive has anything on it? Windows wants to format it.
fdisk or
parted will show you the partitions on the device.
Plug the device in and see what device node it has with either,
or
or (? is for drive letter)

udisks --show-info /dev/sd?
If it has a filesystem on it then you should be able to mount it. If not you'll have to put a FS on it. USB drives also die sometimes. Give more info on what you have.
