pct789 module problems
Hello,
I am trying to get my pct789 based modem working under Redhat 8.0. I downloaded, compiled, and installed the driver, but when I tried to load the module, it complained that my kernel was compiled with gcc 3 while the pctel.o module was compiled with gcc 2. I only have gcc-3.2 on my system. insmod -f works, but then I get kernel panics when I try to dial up. does anyone know a way around this? If I (or some other generous soul) could get to the source code and compile it with gcc 3, then my problems would be solved. is the source code available anywhere? thanks, -Ron |
If you got the precompiled module from here:
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/ Those packages seem to include the source code. Cheers, Finegan |
Thanks, but that is where I originally got the package. The package includes some code, but the actual module is a pre-compiled library (like lib/pct789/pcthal.a). I presume that this is where the problem arises...pcthal.a was compiled with gcc 2.

Yep, that's where the problem comes from, check through the README or the header of some of the files and find out who is responsible for the mess and mail them directly. You would be amazed how often you get a reply from that sort of direct action.
