Im running RH9, and Jan Stiftners latest pctel driver (0.9.7-6)
I believe i sucessfully installed the driver with ./configure -auto
it compiled with no errors, i did insmod -f pctel.o and ptserial.o with no errors (but the tainted kernel) I symlinked TTY13 to /dev/modem. I got Kpp to query the /dev/modem but the ATI responses came back emply (remember Im on a default install)
When I connect I get initializing modem and it just hangs, I can pick up my phone and hear a dial tone, no squelch. Any Idea here? I know theres numerous DOCS out there and HOWTO,s so just a link in the right direction would greatly help me.
Also if this post is redundant MODS feel free to move it somewhere else. It would be easier to buy a known working modem, but then wheres the challenge?

Ya Know.. Iv'e asked this Question Numerous Times but no one has the answer, but they can get THEIR modem to work... Hmmm...
