PCIe External Firewire 800 IDE drive not detected on OEL5.3
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3 (based on RHEL 5.3) does not see my external Firewire drive. I have a Firewire PCI 32-bit card connected with Firewire 800 to an external Firewire IDE drive. Before giving you all the required trace files, here is what I have tried and conclusions I came to.
The motherboard is XFX GeForce 8200 with 4 PCI slots (2 PCI-32, 1 PCIe, I PCI wide for video). I installed 3 cards: 1 PCI HighPoint RocketRAID 1720 that controls 2 SATA internal disks in RAID1; 1 PCI cheap generic 10/100 ethernet card 1 PCIe Firewire 800 to control an external Firewire IDE drive. Interestingly when I loaded Knoppix without including the RocketRAID 1720 PCI controller card, my external Firewire drive was seen. Well, I validated all my hardware. I installed the load CD from Fedora 10 (RHEL 2.6.27.5-117) and I was able to see my external firewire drive assigned /dev/sdc. /dev/sda and /dev/sdb should have actually been as only 1 drive, but I think I got into bug 180708 which does not auto-assemble RAID SATA drives and show them separately. But I can see all the drives including the external Firewire LaCie 2big Triple.
So big question: How do I get the firewire drive recognized on the older RHEL 2.6.18-128? I now know all the hardware is OK. It's just a question of linux ieee1394 that is not working on RHEL5.3. Do you guys know of a patch? Here is the proof of recognized hardware. Well, certainly I am astounded at the number of response and the quality of the answers I got. So, for the ones still looking so hard to get results, here is some answer I got from a colleague.
OEL 5.3 blacklists firewire module from the RHEL kernel. All I had to do was take out firewire-ohci from the blacklist. cd /etc/modprobe.d vi blacklist-firewire put a comment # in front of "blacklist firewire-ohci" reboot And the LaCie 2big Triple drive was detected. On to concurrent logins now. |
