partition errors

Hi,

I am trying to add some space to my linux laptop but i am tired of this messages that i cant get rid of. First of all, when i was to install linux i wanted to have a windows too so i could do dual-boot but the windows installer asked me for the serial # which i couldnt find so i decided to only install my linux and leave the rwindows partition avaiable for a future install.

But now i dont know where my rwindows reinstall disks are and i cant use that 4G reserved for rwindows anymore!

When i fdisk i get:
Partition 2 has different physical/logical endings.

I just managed to delete one of the partitions (hda3) that was said to be non-linux but i wont write it to the table because i am afraid i may lose all my data!

On hda1 i have a swap partition and on hda2 i have my root with all data there. I dont recall creating any hda3 so i am pretty much sure it is my rwindows that is corrputing my table.

How can i solve the physical/logical endings problem and get back all my space?

Thanks for any help,

Hmmm... I really don't know. If I were you, I'd restore the partition that you deleted with the EXACT settings that it had. This will allow you to get back to data that is there. Once you've evacuated all the data you want to, I'd just overwrite the entire partition, and format it from scratch in the way you want.

you mean delete my old rwindows partition and then write the table and reboot? I am sure now that hda3 is my rwindows partition so i can try to delete it... is this your suggestion? How can i format it after i delete it? I have to add a new partition to my table, right? Then how do i use it? Thanks for the very fast reply.

i think it is working now. I had to reboot my system twice until now. Once to remove the old partition. Once more to add the new extended partition and now i am going to try the new one...
