OK ive got an AMD athlon 2500 and i installed slackware 9.1 while it was at the stock speed. after a while i upped it to 2.2Ghz and it was doin fine. then i reformatted and installed slack again fresh while it was running at 2.2 and ever since then it booted up a bit slower and gaim would freeze alot. no wits back at 1.8 but still the same performance. anyone know what the deal is?

maybe you have to enable dma on your harddrive ...
what is the output of :
hdparm -d /dev/hda

that is assuming your harddrive is hda ... change if necessary ...
if it says :
/dev/hda:
using_dma = 0 (off)

then you will type :
hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
to activate it ..

all the commands above are to be done as root ..
