Over the Air Digital TV, MythTV and My Computer

I am not sure if this is the correct place to put this, I am guessing so since it is mostly hardware related.

This is what I want to do, though I am lost on where to start or how to do it. Some of you may know by 2009 in the USA all over the air TV will go from analog to digital. Right now in my area we have both.

1 - I have a USDigital HDTV Receiver. It normally hooks up to a TV and converts the over the air digital signal to analog.
2 - I am looking into MythTV
3 - I want to have the USDigital HDTV Receiver hook directly up to my computer and watch it that way, (I spend most of my time on the computer so for me this makes sense, I will also have one more free space open where the TV is right now, which I need the space, lol.)

I am wondering where I can start, what kind of card or hardware I may or do need to get this all together. MythTV will be my recorder, unless it has other functions I am unaware of right now since I am new to MythTV.

Any info, insight, tips and trick would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Connect Digital and HD signal to PC with MythTV...

I think I understand what you want. You want to connect your digital receiver to your PC and have MythTV use it for showing and recording to the PC. Well if your device is listed on the recommended list of devices, I say go for it! If not then you are going to be writing your own drivers.

Best solution I think is to purchase the new Hauppauge 1600 capture card. It support digital and over the air HD signals. Fry's Electronics just had it with rebate for only $60. So the price is dropping and can be had cheaply.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that is what I am trying to do.

Now the Hauppauge 1600 capture card, will that need a digital receiver like a USDigital HDTV Receiver or will it work without one?

The Hauppage capture card is a digital receiver.

I have a different brand (Dvico), but the idea is the same. It is just a PCI card, with a Co-ax aerial socket on the back that you can plug standard rabbit ears into. Get the drivers installed, and then setup MythTV (I won't go into more details about this here).

I hope this helps

Thank you. I believe I understand now. I am looking forward to trying out MythTV after I get all this set up. Thanks both of you for the help, info and suggestions.
