Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Out Of The Box Card

These 2 cards are the same even though their names are slighty different right? Is there any reason why I shouldn't get the out of the box card and pay a little bit less? I doubt I will need a driver cd since it doesn't have anything for Linux, and if I ever needed Window's drivers, I could download them from the net. Thanks.

While the difference you are describing is true between a retail and OEM version, the "open box" designation means that the card was likely returned. It may have been returned by someone that didn't understand the difference. Or it may have been returned by someone that didn't use proper handling, and static zapped it. Do you think that the vendor tested the card on return?

OEM parts are fine if you don't want the packaging and additions, but personally I don't buy open box merchandise.

I didn't buy it either. I don't want to pay for someone else's problems.
