my display is stuck at 1024X768, if I change it to anything else it gives an "out of range" error. Here's my xorg.conf. Note I have manually changed the 1152X84 (or any other res that was failing) back to 1024X768 to get in. Any help apreciated !!!

I have ran into this trouble before. Here are some of the steps I took to get what I wanted: (dont know how much youve done so I will explain all the details)
FOR KDE
I manually configured xorg.conf using xf86cfg
in this configuration I included pretty much all the logical resolutions I thought would work. This needs to be done in order for your xwindows program (i.e. gnome or kde, etc) to be able to switch resolutions (i think?). Initially KDE would start up at 800x600, then I would look throughout the resolutions to see which one would work, I believe 1280x768 worked for my screen.
However, this has not quite worked with gnome or xfce4.
Thats pretty much all I can think of, this problem is pretty obscure, though I do believe its due to the video card itself or the perhaps the driver.
