Question Optical Wheel Mouse Quake 3

Hi!

I'm running RedHat 9. I've got a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse. It works fine in all applications I've used thus far. However, I'm running quake3 and the optical part don't work. The buttons work, but the optical movement is not functioning. How do I get the mouse to work in quake3?

Thanks,
Russell//
