OpenSUSE and Intel 82845G

I'm seeking answers to a friends question about getting a widescreen monitor working on an Intel 82845G graphics card. I noticed something about this on the HCL but didn't understand what it meant.

How, what and where would I find a driver to be able to use a widescreen (1440x900) monitor using this graphics card. And how would I go about installing it for them?

Cheers,
Andrew

Both your graphics card and your monitor should support the resolution.

You will find other links to related problem below:

Does your graphics card support that resolution, I have tried for the board's manual but could not find the maximum resolution it can support. If it does not support the resolution then you will have to upgrade your graphics card.

Also how did you set your monitor?

If it supports this resolution then you can try setting the supported resolutions in 'xf86config' either by editing the configuration file or running the command with this name it should also provide you with the supported resolution.
Check the graphics configuration utility in your distribution it varies widely like 'xf86config', 'Xfree86config', 'redhat-config-graphics', Xconfigurator, etc

You can also try 'Alt'+'Ctrl'+'+' and 'Alt'+'Ctrl'+'-' in Gui mode which will cycle you through its configured supported resolutions.

Do not try to configure resolutions your card/monitor does not support.
