OpenGL stuck below 2.0 on my ATI 5470... ubuntu 10.04

Without direct rendering my openGL is 1.4, and with it it is 1.5. To get direct rendering I have to manually unset LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT, even when compiz is off. I am using the fglrx from Ubuntu's "Hardware Drivers" tool. Any ideas? glxinfo knows my card supports 3.2 but for some reason I can't use it.ATI drivers

-ATI mobility radeon 5470, dell studio 15
