OpenGL on Ati Radeon

Hi there,

I have a Radeon Mobile 7500 graphics card in my Dell Inspiron 5100.

When using OpenGL screensavers and OpenGL games there are some problem with the way it is diplayed. The graphics are incomplete and often run to fast or out of sync with sound.

Is this likely to be a problem with the OpenGL driver for my card? How can I check if I have OpenGL installed correctly? Are there different OpenGL driver versions for different cards? How do I install it?

In the Hardware Browser in FC2 the video card is shown as a "ATI Radeon Mobility 7500". This is the correct video card.

I could be "barking up the wrong tree" with this but I hope someone can help with the information I've given.

BTW, I have Fedora Core 2 installed (Brilliant Distro!)

Many thanks in advance!

Mike :)

I think your pretty much stuck. IIRC ati doesn't make a linux driver for that card and the ones they do make for the newer radeons suck. I think your just bumping into the limitations of the open source driver and there is not much you can do about it since no other drivers are available. If you want to use linux and your shopping for new hardware always look for an nvidia graphics card. Nvidia's linux drivers are miles above ati's and even a midrange nvida card will outperform a top of the line ati card on linux.

Thanks for your comments. I'm thinking of building a new linux box anyway, so I'll make sure to pick a nvidia card.

Thanks again,

Mike :)
