open source tablet/phone

hey everyone.. im going to be doing a lot of traveling soon and was looking at some open source tablets as an option while traveling and was wondering if anyone had any more information on these

tablets ive found so far include the touch book, auraslate, and spark tablets

does anyone have any information on any of these? which is best, whats the most upgradable/moddable, it would be cool if i could upgrade the tablet myself to include different features like an extra webcam in the rear for photos, gps, or even a 4g antenna

so... advice, suggestions, or information?

What do you mean by "open source?" The Android OS is a Linux distribution, so, in that sense, any tablet using Android is "open source."

well, a lot of those tablets are locked iwth that operating system... cant really do much with the tablet itself in the means of software upgrades or reinstallations that im aware of... unless theres some way to crack into these and install anything you like?

You're not getting a Spark (now Vivaldi):

But there are plenty of Android tablets where people have managed to unlock the bootloader. Even the Acer A500 bootloader can be "replaced" ... It voids your warranty, though.

That kind of hacking may not be a proper discussion for these boards, though...

Word of advice with tablets (from experience),... Go with something with Gorilla Glass, or the generic equivalent (called "chemically enhanced glass," or something).
