Only red color printed

Hi folks,

Ubuntu 1010 desktop
HP deskjet 5740 USB printer
CUPS

I haven't printed document at 3 months. The printer was working correctly before.

I just found printing black/white document without problem. But printing color document the color portion was printed in RED color only. If I remember correctly I replaced the color cartridge not long time ago.

Please advise where to check?

TIA

B.R.

Try checking to see if the nozzles on the ink cartridges are clogged. You can use a Q-Tip and dab it in alcohol. If still no go, try replacing the catridge.

Sometimes it helps to unclog the nozzles to
place the print head on a damp (not wet) absorbent material (paper towel, toilet paper...)

It depends upon how 'high' the clog is...

Hi Josh,

I'm now checking the HP printer on Debian 5.0 PC with the same result, only red color printed.

Could you please explain in more detail on "Q-Tip and dab it in alcohol"? Thanks

Hi justboo2u,

Whether you meant to clean the cartridge with a whet tissue? It it only a printed contact (circuit) on the bottom side of the cartridge. Thanks

Edit:

Your advice works here. After cleaning the metal contact with a damp tissue printing resumed correctly. Thanks

Well, actually I meant the 'head' area... but the act of cleaning and reseating it obviously resolved it...
Good!
