Only low and high scanner resolutions displayed for epson V200 scanner
Slackware-11, Epson Perfection V200 scanner.
Just bought the above scanner and installed the relevant backend and plugin from Epson.
When running the xsane frontend, the scan resolutions available jump from 300 to 2400, and I want to be able to use 600 dpi for the better resolution without the slower scan times of the higher resolutions. When running Epson's iscan frontend, the intermediate dpis are listed, but they do not allow you to select them.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution?
That just appears to be the way it works. The proprietary epson/avasys driver seems to only provide a limited number of options through the free sane interface. Only with iscan are you capable of accessing the full range of scanning modes. Which is unfortunate because iscan is a piece of crud.
But I'm afraid I don't know why you can't access the scan modes through iscan, either. Perhaps it's a permissions problem, though that would probably block all access rather than just some modes. You could try running it with root permission just to make sure.
If you're interested, you might try out the vuescan program instead. It isn't free, in either sense of the word, but it is an excellent program. The link is in my sig.
Thanks for that.
I downloaded and tried vuescan - but unfortunately it seems to have the same problem - listing 300dpi then jumping to 2400. I suspect they use the same bit of Epson software that xsane uses.
I don't think I'm going to resolve this since Epson don't provide support and I've yet to get a reply from Avasys re modifying their backend. It has to be a very minor change that would be needed to make all work as intended - so it's a pity.
The full range of dpis do however work under Windows XP if one can be bothered rebooting, but 300 dpi seems to be pretty good on very small poor quality print. As I said, it's just a pity.
