Unhappy Only hear some sounds

I am running FC6 and I downloaded, config make and installed ALSA 1.0.14rc1. I have reloaded my laptop for various reason over the past few weeks, and this DID work before. there must be something simple askew that I can not find.

Currently I can hear sound coming from the Sound Card Test, but I can not hear any .wav files or real audio files with realplayer or xmms.

I am not currently trying to listen to MP3 so please do not tell me to install that, unless you think it will help in which case I loaded xmms-mp3 already.

lspci -v
Code:
00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 30b7
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10
        Memory at b0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable

I have run alsaconf to select the correct sound card also been into alsamixer to ensure nothing is muted.

Logged in as root, I can hear .wav files.

Logged back in as normal user, and I can here .wav files in xmms, but not in RealPlayer.

Looks like now I am troubleshooting a realplayer problem.
