Only 884MB / 1024MB ram detected?

I currently added a stick of 512MB memory to my linux box. From an orginal 2x256mb sticks. And its only detecting 884MB out of a total of 1024MB of ram. Any reasons for this? Kind of annoying. I had a problem with this ram being detected in another box, so my older brother said it was dead, and i was making sure of it.

You might just need to enable support for high memory in your kernel.
