Old Packard Bell/MBR


Ive got an old packard bell i was hoping to use. I am unable to erase the MBR. I booted an old slackware cd and it would not let me using fdisk.

are there any other ways to erase the mbr?

You shouldn't really need to erase the mbr - just overwriting it during the install of a new bootloader should work. If you want to zero it you can try:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1

well its weird, its like packard bell has it locked somehow...is this possible? anything that isnt a packard bell disc wont be read. I dont think this is possible, but ive never been unable to write to a disk like this before. the previous OS was the packard bell version of winders 98.

Look in BIOS form boot virus protection and turn it off
