old handheld, Palm Zire, data

Hi

1. The data got wiped off the Zire but hopefully is still in the Windows side of a dual-boot. Can Ubuntu 10.04 pull all the data from the Windows side of my dual-boot or can i copy&paste it into Ubuntu?

2. I think this link shows where the data is supposed to be but have not dared to look there yet.
http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/com.../26674_en.html

3. I don't know how to set-up the Zire in Ubuntu.

4. I don't know how to sync data between the Zire and Ubuntu and can not even remember how to do this in Windows either. I can't remember what i did on the Zire to allow it to sync.

5. I don't know how to look-up the model number of the Zire. On the back of the case it says "m150"

I have actually been struggling with this for quite a few days so any links to nudge me in the right direction might be a huge help. Mostly things just seem to work quite easily in Ubuntu 10.04

Many thanks, apols and regards from
Tom

I know there was palm support in many of the older distro's when I had a palm device. I think the issue back then was if usb support.

Look at these.

All those palms ought to be the same if they all used palm's hotsync.

Hi

It turned out to be fairly easy. I used rsync to create a copy of the Zire's folders and then i think i rsync'd parts that "looked about right" into the folders that Ubuntu had created. So, i had a lot of back-ups and didn't work off the original at all. Linux keeps old drivers and they seem to keep working even on newer releases. It's not like Windows where new drivers are needed for each new OS! Just installing the palm-pilot program drew in the right drivers for me although the machine seemed to shudder in distaste when it got plugged in to something so old

Rsync keeps permissions the same whereas copy&paste can mess things up sometimes (or so i have been told)

Good luck and regards from
Tom
