Officejet don't work with Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft

Hi all,
I've just bought and installed A Multifunction Printer HP Officejet J5780. I've successfully installed the printer but Sane doesn't recognize any scanner device. I've downloaded the autoinstaller suggested by hp HPLIP 2.8.2. I've expanded it as the manual suggests and the other steps. Ubuntu claims for some dependancies:
"error: A required dependency 'python-devel (python-devel - Python development files)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'cups-devel (cups-devel- Common Unix Printing System development files)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'libusb (libusb - USB library)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'libjpeg (libjpeg - JPEG library)' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without these dependencies.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.
"
By using Synaptic I've installed libusb-0.1-4, libusb-dev, libjpeg*, phyton-dev, (cups-devel doesn't exist) phyton-cups, libcups2,libcupsys2,libgnomecups* (I'm using Gnome).
Then, ftom term I run again
sh hplip-2.8.2.run.
I choose the custom choice, not automatic, the installer detects my distro, ask me what kind of install i want, i answer m for multifunction. Again the installer don't find these dam'd dependancies. I've thought it depended on my sources.list. I report it...

Most of the HP scanners that are part of an all in one are not recognized by model in Linux.

Just pick a generic HP scanner driver, install it, and it will work.
