Just edit xorg.conf with 'nano' or 'vi'. Nano is easier to work with then vi (at least for non vi gurus).

Should be nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf not sure don't use mandrake;good luck

nvidia problems are usually very easy to fix, describe what happens or try some of these.

First do lsmod and see if the nvidia module is being loaded. if not do a modprobe nvidia, change it from nv to nvidia again and try starting x. also make sure DRI is not loading in the config file. if it is delete it and try starting x again. If not describe any error messages you get.

Indeed.
NVidia is Godlike when it comes to 3D support on all OS's, especially on Linux.
Ati plain sucks!

Please think about the title for your post, before you are making statements that are not related to your problem.
Seems more like you just had to RTFM , like the quite complete readme that is on NVidia's page :)

Just stating NVidia rules as well

Configuring X is not for the faint of heart, tis simply misplaced anger. Xdrake may let you specify a new setting if you dig yourself a hole. As always, make a copy of the config file before editing, or at least comment out the lines you are changing settings. This is one area where the phrase 'one step foreward, two steps back' applies to my X config abilities.
