Angry nvidia glx acceleration won't work in kde on debian

I've tried installing both the official nvidia package and the nvidia-kernel, nvidia-glx packages from the unstable debian dist. I don't get any error messages in either case. The end result is a functioning nvidia driver for 2d stuff, but no 3d acceleration (for example, in an opengl screensaver). I've also done nvidia-installer --opengl-headers, but it didn't make a difference.

Then I tried creating a custom kernel, 2.6.8, compiling the nvidia-kernel-source package and loading it as a module. Still the same result.

I've tried searching around, but I couldn't find any threads that solved my problem.

Any help?

I have exactly the same problem! My glxinfo output is the same with yours and I'va also tried so many different ways to make it work but nothing. I've noticed that when I try to load the CrystlGL window decoration (opengl app) I get the following log from the kde crash handler :

Maybe is something wrong with the glx libraries. I am not sure yet. The weird thing is that the time I loaded the nvidia driver everything was working but when I restarted, glx stopped fanctioning...

Hey!
I finally make it work! I followed this http://home.comcast.net/~andrex/Debi...tallation.html and worked perfectly. I tested almost all the installation ways and the one that worked is the one with the module assistant. I suggest you compile a fresh kernel just to be sure that there aren't any modules left from your previous nvidia installations. You have to download the "module-assistant" program
(apt-get install module-assistant), the "nvidia-kernel-source" and the "nvidia-kernel-common". Notice that is necessery to download the "nvidia-kernel-source" package although it doesn't mention it. For the rest follow exactly the instructions in the article and if you have any problems post.

Good luck
