nVidia GeForce2 MX 40 - Open GL - HOW?

Hi, in the subject I stated I had an nVidia GeForce2 MX 40 (video card). The point is that I'm trying to run Quake (I've downloaded the point release for linux and everything) but when starting it, I get the error "could not load OpnGL system". I know my card supports OGL, in fact in Windows it worked perfectly.... but I'm not sure of how to configure it on linux.

I've installed the drivers avaiable at nVidia, I've installed the Mesa packs (both, from my Distro CD and the ones I've downloaded). But nothing seems to work.

I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me on the issue.

thanks a lot.

You can't have both the mesa and nvidia openGL libs on the same system - the two are incompatable.
Have a look at the Q3A FAQ and remove mesa and reinstall the nvidia glx package, then check the install for stray mesa openGL libs with nv_check.

Ok, that worked.... thanks a lot (at least i think THAT worked..)

Now, Quake3 runs almost flawlessly.... except that I can't use my mouse... the clicks work, but the X/Y axis don't.

Any idea???

Oh, besides... I have to run it as root... something to do with permissions.... but I don't care... hehe.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

I'll reconfigure my mouse and try again... though I don't think it would work....

Thanks a lot.
