Weird situation: I successfully compiled and loaded the (testing) nVidia kernel module and successfully configured the (testing) XFree86 X server (which, in Etch, as I understand, is really X.org in disguise) to work with it and the (testing) nvidia-glx package. I have hardware accelerated 2D and 3D graphics with OpenGL without any problems at all. However, each time I reboot, and try to start X, I manage to freeze my system! Looking into the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file, I find that it freezes when loading the glx module. However, if I execute "dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-glx xserver-xfree86" as root after boot-up, and then start X, I have no problems at all. I have already added "nvidia" to the list of modules that need to be loaded during boot-up, and xorg.conf uses the nvidia driver, not the nv driver. Does anyone know why this is happenning? If so, how can I fix this?
