NVIDIA Drivers under Suse 8.1 with 64GBSMP Kernel / no 3d?

Hi,

I'm running Suse Linux 8.1 with the following Kernel:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.4.19-64GB-SMP
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I compiled the original RPMS from the NVIDIA Website with:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
rpm --rebuild NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4496.src.rpm
rpm --rebuild NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4496.src.rpm
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Problem is, that when i install:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
rpm -ivh NVIDIA-kernel-1.0-4496.i386.rpm
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the new nvidia drivers to get 3D i always get an error message:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/lib/modules/2.4.19-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o: kernel-module version mismatch

/lib/modules/2.4.19-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.19-4GB while this kernel is version 2.4.19-64GB-SMP.

/lib/modules/2.4.19-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o failed

/lib/modules/2.4.19-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o: insmod nvidia failed

Failed to install nvidia.o

execution of NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4496 script failed, exit status 1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm working on this since monday now and don't get it. A friend advised me to use the single processor kernel when i want 3D, but I actually don't think that this is a proper workaround.

I'm happy for any help.

Thx

Hi.

Have you tried using the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run version?
