nvidia drivers strange behaviour

I've encountered a strange problem

i've downloaded and installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg1.run
everything worked fine - ppracer, wolfenstein, etc
but after reboot X didn't start
so i did lsmod

now nvidia module isn't loaded, but X works perfectly, glxgears produces >300 fps, how can it be? How can i avoid reinstalling nvidia driver after each reboot?
p.s. different driver versions didn't solve the problem

I had the same kind of problems when I was installing the nvidia drivers from nvidia web site, I had no problems with "debian way".

You need to unistall the your nvidia driver then

http://www.debianhelp.co.uk/nvidia.htm

I followed this. and it worked fine.

Strange I am using stable, worked fine.

Do you have packages from the unstable versions?
