Dude, if you saying that debain only uses old versions, then your sorely mistaken. If you run the stable version you get only the most stable versions. But i've personally being using unstable(which is stabler then redhat ever was). I've got Gimp 1.3, Xfree 4.3 and alot of "modern" versions.

Just go to your /etc/apt/sources.list and change all the "stable" to "unstable"
type "dist upgrade;apt-get update;apt-get upgrade"

and your magic. Nuff said.

Okey dude. Ment no offence. I just got the impression that the guy's at debian are kind of paraniod when it come to stability. I know there is an "unstable" branche with more up-to-date versions btw. But I can imagin a newbie thinking "he I want to stable one cos the unstable on aint stable"
No hard feelings right?

ps. I don't think debain is a bad distro or any thing like that. I rather have debain then most other distro's

Just installed an copy of slackware 9. Although as you can see from my profile, I have tried out a good number of distro's, including debian. One of the beter distro's I tried. But the best distro in my mind is linux from scratch. It's a real pain getting it installed, but it's well worth it. I would be using it right now if it wern't for an hard drive crash I had a week of two ago.

Just wanted to followup - my problem's fixed!!

It must have been since I was starting X on a ssh connection. As soon as I got home after upgrading nvidia-glx to unstable, things worked fine. I've since upgraded KDE from 2.2 to 3.1, with associated x dependancies, and things are working fine. Haven't tested 3D accel yet, but nothing in the XFree86.log leads me to believe it's broken.

Now it's just performance tweaking. Actually, if any of you have links to a decent guide or HOWTO on performance options for a Geforce4400Ti, it'd save me soem googling.

Thanks again!

Anyone solve a problem with glx not loading on redhat 9.0 and nvidia 5336? here is the error in my XFree86.0.log. Any ideas on how to fix this?
