nvidia driver problems suse 10.1

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5160 laptop which has a GeForce FX Go5200 card. I'm trying to run dual monitors (my latop screen along with an external monitor) and am unable to do so with the driver included with SuSE 10.1. I downloaded the driver from the nvidia site, and followed the instructions. It installed without a hitch, but when I try to use that driver, my laptop monitor dies and the main picture shows up on my external monitor. I thought that maybe once I got that far I could simply enable dual head mode and it would sort itself out, but no such luck. How can I set this up so that my main display is on the laptop and my external monitor is secondary?

I found that on the nvidia site, but its fairly unspecific especially for someone whos a linux noob like myself. Where abouts are they asking for these changes to be made and does this look like a reasonable answer to anyone?

There is a file, which nVidia forgot to mention the name of. It is

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

In SuSE 10.1, and all SuSE there is a program called sax2

su
rootpassword
init 3
root
rootpassword
sax2
init 5

Within sax2 there is an option for dual headed configuration. In SuSE, sax2 makes /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
