Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Ok I just installed a fresh copy of Fedora core 4. I am having problems playing games(they lag alot). I need a new driver than this genaric "outofdate" driver that come with this OS. My nVidia card is a XFX nVidia GeForce 7600GS 512mb I have looked at the nVidia site for a driver but none of them seem to be the right one.. Help would be great Thank you
when I put in init 3 its say the bash command not found stuff. its supposed to work and it isnt, more help please, thank you for the link and the help. EDIT: oh um I lookded on the nvidia site for intsructions. they have this huge thing for it and its all confusing, let me link you to it http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...DME/index.html
Distribution: Xubuntu 9.10, Gentoo 2.6.27 (AMD64), Darwin 9.0.0 (arm)
init 3 and inittab are different. basically what they are getting at is to install the driver you have to shut down X and preferably get into runlevel 3 (full multiuser no X) were you loged in as root when you tried init 3? if this doesn't work there are other ways to get into runlevel 3 but, this is the easiest.
