I installed the 8776 (and 8774) driver from nVidia on my FC6 system (after upgrading to FC6). Works - I have 3d acceleration, see the nVidia logo, glxgears works, etc.!

But I have some strange effects, like transparency settings on the desktop.

• Windows with "round corners" are not transparent around the round - the place from round to corner is filled with the same color as the window frame.
• When minimizing windows, a black rectangle moves to the task bar (was transparent in my previous install).
• Transparent windows like my gkrellm look very strange "sizzling decorations".

I also get this when installing the driver. Unsure if it has anything to do with it (since the driver works), but anyway:

What the ??? is this SDK/development package??

Can I sonehow set the path to the X library (in xorg.conf maybe)??


Any ideas?

The info is on the nvidia forum. Short form:

# yum install kernel-devel xorg-x11-server-sdk pkgconfig
# yum update
# reboot

Then install the nvidia driver.

BUT: the strange window decorations and transparency effects are still there...

The first (window border) shows how the "round corner" is not really round - how there is a corner that does not belong the title bar itself, the desktop should shine through here...

The second (gkrellm) shows how the transparency of the "Glass-2" (and all others with transparency) is somehow unclear. Usually it has a thin line which is a bit thicker in the corners - here there is some noise all around the thin lines, especially heavy at the bottom...


Any ideas??

These settings here are for the AIGLX (compiz or beryl) 3d desktops - but somehow solve my issue - even without using these window managers!?
