NVIDIA display driver problem with GeForce 6600GT Fedora Core 4
I am new to linux but I am very familiar with computers. I recently tried to install the nvidia display driver (1.0.8174) for my GeForce 6600GT, and everything went fine up untill I entered the line "nvidia" under the Device heading in xorog.conf. If I switch it back to vesa where it was defaulted everything works fine. My scenario is that when I try to restart the X-server by typing "init 5" the screen flickers and then the blue screen for error output pops back up. I have used two methods and two different versions of the display driver from nvidia. The method I am using I got from mjmwired -(it wont let me post the url). I have done this before when I was running a dual boot with Fedora Core 3 and everything went fine, now I am doing the same thing with Fedora Core 4 and nothing seems to be working. I also specified the monitor I am using ViewSonic G90fb-2 and its not helping.

It looks like to me that I am not able to start because of a refresh rate error but I know that can't be the problem with the monitor I am using. I also want to thank anyone who can help me with this problem.

So I guess where I stand now is finding out how to fix the refresh rate setting. I also noted that when I loaded the vesa driver it picks up the 30-97 values for the horizontal refresh rate and everything works fine except for the choppyness of the display.
Ya, i saw the entire error log and noticed that your HorizSyinc was messed up ( should have scrolled down in the 1st place instead :P )
I think you can change this from your xorg.conf file, i too had the problem yesterday as my horizsync was too high for my monitor to handel. all i did was in the console i became su then :
gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
then i went to the Section Monitor and changed the HorizSync manually. works like a charm now. For references sake, i am including my xorg.conf file. I too am using Fedora 4 and have a GeForce 6600GT :-D. Hope this helps.
