nvidia 750a installation issues (multiple distros)
I just got a new motherboard, and have been having some issues with getting several distros to install properly. My system is an nvidia 750a with 2 gigs of ram and 2 sata drives (HD and DVD burner.) Pretty basic.
First I tried to install Fedora Core 10. The install went fine, except it would not do a graphical install, only text. After, I could not get X windows to boot, only got an error of "no screen found" or something similar. Some tips of using 'xconfig' or 'redhat-config' or 'nvidia-config' all turned up the same : the commands did not even exist.
So next I thought I'd try Ubuntu. Got the CD, booted from it, and got my boot menu. After selecting the 'Install' option, I got the Ubuntu splash screen, and after about 2 minutes, it booted me out to the system shell.
Now it's been a while since I did a new install, but I thought I was fairly proficient in linux issues and solving them, but I'm just lost on this one. I'm assuming that it is a graphics card issue, I just don't know what to do about it.
Thanks for any help.
well to start at basics when you burn a disk do it slow then be for you install run the disk check program. bad burns .bad install. the reason I say that linux does not need the factory drivers to run your video card. It will use the nvidiafb linux driver but it is only good for 2d. so this is an install problem. best I can guess
