nvida: found screen but version of kernel and driver do not match
I did my research I search the Forums.
After i installed ubunto the system recommended i update the core packages and then to make changes i had to restart. This is where ubunto informed me that i required new graphics drivers for unity to work properly. So i installed new drivers. NVIDA drivers and the kernel are different versions. How do i reconfigure so startx does not crash the system. I have a low res terminal without root access. The install cd did not have an option to set a root password.
the drivers crash the system
You have in the subject that the version of your kernel and driver do not match.
If you are sure this is the problem (and a crash doesn't prove it unless the box says so), it is because the kernel module in the driver is compiled against a different kernel version. Some versions of the binary driver allow you to build the source against your owmn kernel (whatever that is). With Ubuntu, probably getting the versions right will solve it.
I do not have root access only have administrator privileges. How do i revert back to the old drivers. I know nothing of linux. Please help. Call me 707-704-5467 my name is Maneesh
I haven't looked inside a nvidia binary blob for a l-o-n-g time, so I would not presume to offer advice.
The procedure was:
The last one I looked in had several script options, one of which allowed you to explode the thing and have the source. You could then (using it's script) make a kernel module for the kernel source you had there. You will need the correct kernel source, previously built (drop in the .config from /boot and run make). Something like that. But it was a long time ago.
If you are running ubuntu, it's a question of downloading the correct packages.

How did you install the drivers?
I'd guess you manually installed them, which isnt the best idea.....
Installed the drivers for NVIDA graphics card from with in the gui. It was all automatic but i think i chose the wrong version. Please help me. How do i roll back the drivers.
