Not able to detect mouse device

Hi, I am new in this forum & also new on Linux. My friend came to me with his PC running on Linux having problem "Keyboard & Mouse not functioning". Check & found out that there's a faulty component near the keyboard/mouse connector on his VIA motherboard. Replaced the component & now the keyboard is functioning but not the mouse on the Linux OS. Since I am new on Linux OS, I double confirm by installing a new harddrive & load the Windows OS (win98) on this PC. The keyboard & the mouse both functioning fine. Any idea why on the Linux OS, the mouse is not functioning? Any guidance on the above is much appreciated.

Thank you so much in-advance.

Best Regards,
Simon Tukian.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for your response. The version is Linux 2.4.3-20MDK & the mouse is a PS2 mouse.
FYI, the mouse is working now after my friend reconfigure it.

Thank you.

Best Regards,
