No sound on Slackware 10 with SoundMAX integrated controller.

I just installed Slackware and after some initial driver problems, got everything working except my sound. I'm positive this is a driver problem, either the drivers arn't included with this kernel or I'm not activating them in some way. Here's some information:

Slackware 10
Kernel: 2.4.26
Motherboard: Asus A7V600
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)

I haven't really encountered any error messages that I can remeber yet regarding this. The sound just doesn't work and I'm new with Linux so I really don't know where to start.

Do you have something like this in your /etc/modules.conf file?
Code:
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias char-major-116 snd

alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx

alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-midi

Boy, do I feel dumb

Same problem. I'm a linux n00b, but I thought, "Well, I wanna be a admin, don't I?" so I took the plunge. Everything went super-smooth, beautiful desktop, slick command line, until I got to sound, where I had the same problem with soundmax. Everything would play, everything was aliased right, and files even appeared to play, but there was no sound. So, after nearly 10 hours of hacking, I said, "I suppose I'm just not that cool. I'll download Mandrake or something... and something stopped me. I fooled around with the plugs for a second...

I had it plugged into the wrong output jack. ALSA only pipes sound to one of them, and I'm colorblind, so I couldn't tell the difference between the yellow (which worked in windoze) and the pale green.

Well, that certainly feels better.

do you have a TV card?....if so then you will have to blacklist the TV card, because with me my tv card kept being picked up as my primary soundcard...so that was bad...

lol

if that sounds anything like your deal...then ....search the forums about the tv card blacklisting stuff....

that might not be your prob....but hey....its beer
