No sound on headphone jack

I have no sound on my headphone jack, though my in-built speakers (laptop) work just fine. Oddly enough, this problem only started when I upgraded from openSUSE 10.1 to 10.2.

I am having problems with the same card.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-531478.html
I have it playing a mp3 or wav from the command line but nothing in kde or any players I tried. I have some more work to do. I got tired of trying, I am going to wait and try another kernel later.

The audio works just fine with Amarok (MP3, WMA, etc) on the in-built Altec Lansing speakers, I just don't get any output on my headphone jack. I also know it's not the headphones since they work fine in WinXP.

I read about a 'Headphone Jack Sense' and 'Line Jack Sense' option in the Switches tab in Kmix, but there is no such tab in mine.

There's the MCP51 audio problem again.

You can see my post here on what you can expect with different versions of alsa. Results may vary given your Distro/Hardware, but they all look pretty similar:
