no sound

i have no sound. when i start the sound panel in yast i get a panel that says 'number of currently running cards doesn't match the number of configured cards in your configuration files. try to restart sound system?' i click yes and nothing happens... then in the panel it says 'not running' for the state of my sound card. i have a soundblaster audigy 2 zs.

i tried uninstalling and installing through yast and i got this error message when i tried to install it. 'the kernel modul snd-emu10k1 for sound support could not be loaded. this can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.'

on the left side help panel it says 'check you have correctly installed the ALSA package(from the series 'snd'). If the problem persists, try passing options to the ALSA module. If your sound card still will not work, try OSS/Free or another module. In this case, launch the YAST sound configuration module from the shell using the yast2 sound .oss command.'

have you used the alsa driver from alsa-project.org or from the kernel source?
and what kernel version do you have?

if you have a 2.6 kernel
when you run 'make menuconfig' try to select Open Sound System instead Advanced Linux Sound Architecture

in
Device Drivers -->Sound

this is a solution ...
an other solution is to try to pass the correct parameters to the module

this is only a personal comment : I think it's not the bettere solution using the YAST to configure the sound card ..
