become root
and run
XFdrake ... try to tackle it from there.

If that doesn't work,
try
XFree86 -configure

What this means is that XFree86 cannot find a screen that your monitor/video card are capable of displaying.

You should get some information on your monitor, vertical & horizontal refresh rates, screen sizes, & your video card model & amount of video ram it has then if the xconfigurator doesn't work you could try inputting the proper values into XF86Config yourself.

Many of the S3 drivers are basically unsupported so they automatically use a generic vga driver so let's say your monitor is an SVGA and you are using the VGA driver BUT telling it to do something that only an SVGA monitor can do it's going to get all confused

I'm not positive but I think a frame buffer is in regards to what is displayed while booting and working at the command prompt-the text only portion. It designates how wide of a screen to use. (and whether or not you get to see Tux while booting) Maybe someone can correct me on this or explain it better.

Hi,

go to BIOS setting and increase the frame buffer size to 8 MB. It worked for me.
