no record with Mic / Etch ?
my problem with microphone /and/ recording is slightly
different perhaps... I know this works in Etch, and with the microphone I have... while testing all this yesterday, I was able to produce two recordings, but was more interested then in how to save the file. Now, I cannot get recording to work again. Im wondering if there is a "checklist" to work thru... files and/or settings which will determine whether microphone/recording are functional or not in Etch ? I did find a tutorial for USB Microphone / Audacity... however, this never explains what to do IF one of the step fails... very useful otherwise. To those who may use Etch and have similar problems recording, Ill say in addition that sound playback is working, from MP3 or WAV or other, and internet sound is working. It is sound recording which will not work for me. Any qualified suggestions welcome. thanks |
part Two: usb microphone problem
Quote:
various of the sound recording apps... the mic is recognized by all applications... I can see the mic name and information, so, Etch seems to be ready to record with it. It simply does not seem to be "activated"... again, it is detected, but functionally, a "dead mike"... the two dont seem to go together. For this to happen, one part of Etch audio has to be finding the mic... but... some other (unknown) part is not transferring the signal ? I wont hypothesize further... this is the problem as well as I can describe it. Thanks again to anyone who has fixed this, or knows how to. |
part Three / usb microphone problems / possible clue ?
Quote:
has answered the question(!)... I say this with a grain of salt... the following -might- in fact explain what is going wrong. In the various mixer configuration applications, we see "Mic" representing the microphone... but... it occurs to me this might, at the bread and butter level, only apply to the physical audio/microphone jack itself, and not to a USB device which also happens to be a microphone. The audio/microphone input plugs directly to the sound card... and I am unsure as to how the USB mic connection works... but... it seems possible that this may be considered a "line in" or other alternative connection ? I will try various other selections... as I say... somehow all this DID work for me before. Thanks once more, and hope Im not wasting space on this great board overlooking something like this. EDIT: Nope... no other setting for input improves on this... its just a "dead mike" situation_ err_ even though the mic is detected /and/ has worked. I officially give up on this goose chase till some better answer becomes known. |
