No carrier?


I set up my Genius External 56K modem,I did query-it worked well,but when I try do connect,modem starts dialing and then kppp writes-no carrier.

What that means?
What should I do?

It means no dial tone in the phone line.

if you connect an ordinary phone to the line, can you hear dial tone?

It is ok now.I set it up.The problem was in kppp,I set CR/LF,but it is ok with just CR.Thanx anyway.
