No 32-bit depth option allowed

I've just upgraded to Mandriva.2006 from a previous version where I had no problems with graphics, but now I don't have the option of 32-bit depth. I tried changing that option in my XFree86Config file, giving of course an error (no 32-bit config allowed with this driver), and I'm sure the driver is the correct (Intel 915). In fact, I've downloaded the most recent version of that driver from Intel, but my computer keeps saying no. Any ideas?

those 8bits from 24 to 32 are basically null they dont really fill in anything, so just go with 24 and all should be good. Cause 24bit is what i use on my 1280x1024 19" LCD monitor and the color is whicked even compared to my X64 Win XP setup

A color depth of 24-bits is 16.7 million colors. The extra 8-bits are not nulls. They are 256 levels of opaque.

Ok, but even if the extra 8 bits are null or alpha, I still find it more difficult to read and see where the icons are... jusy like if I didn't have enough contrast. But the fact is that before upgrading my desktop was clearer. May it be a problem on my KDE config files? I've reused 'em. I guess Mandriva 2006 ships KDE 3.4; I used to have 3.2. Or how can I change contrast in XFree86Config? I don't feel very confident messing around with X...
