nforce2/3/4 100% cpu load while IDE/SATA operations
 

Hi All!

Two month ago i have nforce2 ultra motherboard + samsung and hitachi ide hard drives. I have following trouble with this - 100% cpu load while ide operations (read or writing). This slows down entrie system performance.

Yesterday i changed configuration (due to this bug :( ) to nforce4 sli + hitachi ide + hitachi sata2 hard drives and noticed, that bug is still present. Not only with IDE but also with SATA2 HDD.

I tried to do hdparm -m 1 -u 0 to both drives, but this doesn't help.

I have a nforce 3 250GB Mainboard with a samsung 160Gb hdd. During hdd access, the cpu load is not at 100%.

I tried by himself only on nforce2 and nforce4 motherboards, and found post in linux-kernel archive, where one man reports that he has similiar problem on nforce3.

please give me your harddrive hdparm parameters.

by the way, i tried this with kernels 2.6.8-2.6.14.2. which kernel do you have?

i just tried kernel 2.4.27, it doesn't have such problem. seems that this bug exists only in 2.6.x kernel series
