nforce audio mp3 playback

I have a nforce 2 mother board with onboard nforce 2 audio, i have installed fedora core 2, and the gstreamer extentions from freshrpms, for fedora core 2.

When i listen to mp3s through xmms or rhythmbox the sound quality is terrible. xine gnome cd player all work really well.

What have i done wrong

Thanks in advance

Tom

when you say xine and gnome cd player works well, are you playing mp3s? have you tried any different output pluggins for xmms?
