Newbie - Epson stylus color 480 parallel - wont print.

Hey all,

Im trying to get an Epson Stylus Color 480 printer to print on my Slackware 9.1 box. I have been following various docs and stuff, but Im a bit stuck and dont know where to look to check the status of stuff.

Basically, I am just (as root) typing "cupsd" to start the cups server. When I do this, I get the following message from dmesg:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: Printer, EPSON Stylus COLOR 480
lp0: using parport0 (polling)

which looks promising! But if I try to print anything - even the test page from the kde printing manager - nothing prints. It says "test page successfully sent to printer epson" but my printer just sits in a slumber. It used to print on my redhat box and I changed the cables etc.

Can anyone tell me what I might check to look for errors - in the cups set up, or parrallel set up etc?

Thank you!

Yep, I tried through the web interface, and through the KDE print helper thingo.

The software seems to say "yep, its printing..." but nothing happens. The print jobs just sit in the print queue.

Ive tried kicking it, and yelling at it but it doesnt seem to fix it.

are you using the drivers that CUPS provides or ones from somewhere else. If its the cups drivers it might have incomplete support for your printer so try getting an alternative. This page looks useful:
